Kirby Morejohn | Marine Biologist & Underwater Photographer in San Diego

Hello! I'm Kirby - a marine biologist and photographer based in San Diego, California. I specialize in underwater photography, ocean lifestyle imagery, coastal portraits, watersports, and wildlife photography.

I grew up surfing and spearfishing in San Diego, developing an appreciation for the ocean from an early age. That passion eventually led me to become a marine scientist, as well as a trained freediver and technical SCUBA diver. As a lifelong waterman, my experiences in and around the ocean continue to shape how I approach photography, helping me work comfortably and safely in dynamic marine environments while creating authentic imagery both above and below the surface. I strive to capture genuine moments that reflect both the subject and the environment around them.

In addition to underwater photography, I work with individuals, families, athletes, and brands to create ocean-inspired imagery above the surface. Sessions range from underwater portrait photography and freediving imagery to family portraits, maternity sessions, athlete portraits, commercial lifestyle photography, and editorial storytelling. My goal is always the same: to create meaningful photographs that connect people to the places and experiences they value most.
